Family Math Night Selfie Station

Family Math Night Selfie Station

Here’s a super fun – and simple – activity you can do at your next Family Math Night. A Selfie Station. We included one at a recent event and it was a HUGE hit!

The photo to the left shows the backdrop we used.

Two of my staff had a lot of fun creating it but it doesn’t need to be this detailed. A title and a few fun math symbols would work great. You could even have upper elementary students or the Student Council design it. And getting them involved will help promote your event!  It’s a win/win.

I’ve included the photos below to give you an idea of the props we used and how we organized the station.

I found a lot of the items at the Dollar Store and placed them on a table next to the backdrop. Some examples included fun sunglasses, pom-poms, leis, feather boas, hats, tiaras and other fun items to wear on the head. One teacher even made fake mustaches on a stick!

It was fun to see the sixth grade Station Facilitators and teachers get involved!

This Selfie Station was such a huge hit that I plan on including one at all of my events from now on. And the good news is, now that I have the backdrop and props, I’m all set!

Selfie Station UPDATE – October 2023

Sometimes we just forget things. And that’s what happened to me at last week’s Family Math Night event. We were setting up for the event when I realized I had forgotten to put the Selfie Station backdrop in the car. No time to go back and get it.

But I have an amazing staff and they came up with a Plan B.

Why not use some of the table covers as the backdrop? Add a title and graphics punched out from the die cuts in the teacher’s room and we were in business. I’m including it here because it shows that you don’t need a fancy backdrop to have a successful Selfie Station.

Below are two more photos of some of the props my parent helper bought and the SUPER cute signs she made.

Although I was pretty bummed that I had forgotten my backdrop, it turned out to be a welcome mistake as it proved that families don’t need fancy backdrops to have a fabulous time!
