I know I’ve said it before, but math combined with art is always a huge hit at our Family Math Night<\/a> events. It’s the reason why we included at least one crafty math activity in each of our event kits<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to those in the event kits, I’ve also created over 20 individual\u00a0math\/art activities<\/a>\u00a0that are fun to include at your Family Math Night event. Here’s my latest – designed around my summertime frame of mind:\u00a0Beach Ball Fractions<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n

This was a super fun activity that tied in shapes, patterns, fractions, angle measurement and some good mathematical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we do with all of our\u00a0Family Math Night<\/a>\u00a0activities, I created three levels of activity sheets – Beginning (K\/1), Intermediate (2\/3), and Advanced (4\/5). I also included a table tent to remind parents at the Advanced level how to use a protractor. The link to the PDF lesson plan is included below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although this activity is super fun to do at a\u00a0Family Math Night<\/a>\u00a0event, it can also be done in the classroom. The younger students, however, will need some help. This is the perfect time for a buddy class of older students or parent volunteers to come work with the littles!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
