Nathan was headed out to Kragen’s the other day to buy some items for his car.\u00a0 He loves his car and spends a lot of time…and money…on it.\u00a0 I don’t know where this kid came from.\u00a0 The rest of us look at\u00a0cars as a tool to get us from point A to point B.<\/p>\n

I asked Nathan why he didn’t get his supplies at Walmart\u00a0which I was sure would be cheaper.\u00a0 “Yeah, I know Walmart\u00a0is cheaper.\u00a0 But I love talking about my car to the people in Kragen’s.\u00a0 They’re extremely helpful and know what I’m talking about.\u00a0 They even installed my new windshield wipers the last time I was there.\u00a0 For free.”<\/p>\n

I’ve always taught my kids to be savvy shoppers.\u00a0 Shop sales<\/em>, I tell them.\u00a0 Compare prices<\/em>, I add.\u00a0 Getting\u00a0value for your dollar\u00a0is important<\/em>, I stress.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But my little conversation with Nathan reminded me that sometimes spending a little extra in order to\u00a0receive a little extra, is not\u00a0a bad thing.\u00a0 In fact, it’s a good thing.\u00a0 We should <\/em>splurge a little on the things that are important to us, as long as we don’t overdo it.\u00a0 And most of us know where that line is.<\/p>\n

Before Nathan walked away with his coveted car supplies he added, “Oh, and I love drooling over all the other stuff they have in the store.”\u00a0 Made me think his (eventual) girlfriend is going to have to be a little understanding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
