{"id":4060,"date":"2015-11-20T17:11:59","date_gmt":"2015-11-21T01:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.familymathnight.com\/blog\/?p=4060"},"modified":"2015-11-20T17:11:59","modified_gmt":"2015-11-21T01:11:59","slug":"counting-money-at-family-math-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familymathnight.com\/blog\/?p=4060","title":{"rendered":"Counting Money at Family Math Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in the early 2000s, my husband and I joined forces, he as a software engineer and me as a teacher, to design a kids savings and money management software program. \u00a0We called it KidsSave. \u00a0In that program we included <a href=\"http:\/\/kidnexions.com\/kidsmoney\/moneycounter\/#.Vkn9UbuFPIU\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">a fun way to teach kids basic money skills<\/a>. \u00a0It was such a powerful tool that we decided to include it for free on our kids and money website.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mlsvc01-prod.s3.amazonaws.com\/65e834fa001\/9c7a2386-c374-457e-bb38-6c1aa9b8a088.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"485\" height=\"362\" name=\"ACCOUNT.IMAGE.156\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite features of the <a href=\"http:\/\/kidnexions.com\/kidsmoney\/moneycounter\/#.Vkn9UbuFPIU\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">KidsSave Money Counter<\/a> is the ability for kids to get immediate feedback. \u00a0Immediate feedback, as you know, is so important to the learning process. \u00a0With the KidsSave Money Counter, kids can make predictions about the value of a group of coins and then quickly see if they were right. \u00a0They love the fun sounds the wheel makes as it turns and as the money is dropped onto the counting pad.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t already have it, you&#8217;ll need to install Microsoft Silverlight to run the program. \u00a0But it&#8217;s easy and super quick to do. \u00a0The site will prompt you. \u00a0You just can&#8217;t do it if you&#8217;re using Chrome so you&#8217;ll need to switch to a browser like Internet Explorer.<\/p>\n<p>Once the Money Counter is up and running, it&#8217;s easy to use for whole class instruction.
