So that was fun.\u00a0 I got to hang out with\u00a0 kindergartners\u00a0 and first graders this morning.\u00a0 With Ryan’s former K\/1 teacher.\u00a0 It was like old times when I used to go in twice a week and teach math.\u00a0 Only this time, I <\/em>was the student.<\/p>\n

That’s because I wanted to find out what 5- and 6-year olds know about money.\u00a0 I told them that I wanted to learn from them today.\u00a0 They thought that was pretty cool and sat up straight for me.<\/p>\n

So when I asked about money,\u00a0this is what I got:\u00a0 “You buy stuff with it.”\u00a0 Yes, indeedy, that is what money is for.\u00a0 And since about 10 other kids said the same thing when I called on them, I decided to move on.\u00a0 Besides, I was really more interested in what they thought about being rich.<\/p>\n

It’s sort of a no-brainer…being rich is very nice, but my real goal was to see if they could understand that there were different things, besides money, that they could be rich in.\u00a0 And would you believe it!?\u00a0 They totally got it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“You can be rich in friends,” said one little girl.<\/p>\n

“Or you can be rich in kindness,”\u00a0 said another.<\/p>\n

“Rich in kindness means you are nice to other people,” explained the girl sitting next to her.<\/p>\n

Holy, schmoley, was I ever impressed.\u00a0 They even shared that being rich in kindness and friends is more important than being rich in money.\u00a0 And now that we’ve got priorities established, I’d like to show them how they can\u00a0become rich in money.\u00a0 Because those are the kids who will grow up with the foundation to use money\u00a0and really make a difference in this world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
