Keeping gas in the tank is painful for a teen when it’s their money that’s being sucked dry.\u00a0 But it’s also a very important life lesson.\u00a0 Teens need to learn how to manage money before we send them out into the world.<\/p>\n
So Nathan was thrilled when he came home yesterday with\u00a0yet another\u00a0opportunity to drive one of Ryan’s friends to school every day.\u00a0 Besides Ryan, this is his fourth passenger.\u00a0 Paying passenger.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I told Nathan I would pay him the Ryan’s school bus fare if he drove Ryan to and from school each day.\u00a0 That cost me $265.\u00a0 Nathan was thrilled.<\/p>\n
Then one of\u00a0Nathan’s friends asked if\u00a0he could be driven home from daily cross country practice.\u00a0 He’d pay $5\/week.\u00a0 The same happened with one of Ryan’s friends who also needed a ride home and was also willing to pay $5\/week.<\/p>\n
So far I’m thinking Nathan’s ahead.\u00a0 And he’s doing it without hestitation\u00a0so I’m pretty sure he’s figured out he’s ahead.<\/p>\n
But now it’s turning into a business.\u00a0 Last week another one of Ryan’s friends asked if Nathan could pick him up on the way to school.\u00a0 It’s a little out of Nathan’s way but for $25\/month Nathan was willing to take a slight detour.\u00a0 Then a friend of Ryan’s friend asked the same thing.\u00a0 Since both of these boys is being picked up at the same place (they go to morning seminary) Nathan figured…what’s one more\u00a0if he’s getting and additional\u00a0$25\/month.<\/p>\n
I think the whole thing is great.\u00a0 Nathan is a very safe driver.\u00a0 We\u00a0did ask\u00a0that he talk with the parents to work out details and so that the parents have a chance to meet him.\u00a0 He’s actually doing these parents a huge favor.\u00a0 The school is 13 miles away.\u00a0 That’s a lot of driving time.<\/p>\n
And I know how Nathan thinks.\u00a0 He has room for one more passenger to and from school.\u00a0 That’s even more gas money.\u00a0 I’m not much of a gambling gal, but I have bets that within a few weeks those seats will be filled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
