Often, teachers have students bring in 100 of something that they sort into groups of 10 (you can also have each student bring in 10 of something and then combine them to make 100).  Or maybe it&#8217;s a project made with 100  of something.  Or making tally marks and skip counting by fives to 100.  Whatever you choose, it&#8217;s the perfect way to celebrate our base 10 number system.  BTW, did you know that we have our fingers to thank for our system?<\/p>\n<p>To the left is the project my son did when he was in kindergarten.  As you can see, there&#8217;s a lot of math in the project in addition to the 100 points:  skip counting by fives, patterns (0, 5, 0, 5, 0, 5,etc.), division (100 points divided by 20 stars equals 5 points each), multiplication (20 x 5 = 100), algebra (5x = y).<\/p>\n<p>Okay, so most of that is not kindergarten work&#8230;but there&#8217;s absolutely nothing wrong with exposing kids to the possibilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s no better excuse to have kids counting all day than the 100th day of school.
